Diwang Pinay – 5/3 – Bayanihan Center SF

If you’re down for {M}aganda Magazine because you are (a fan of) Filipinos and the arts, then here is an event to head to after our Launch Reception of Sunday, May 3rd.

Diwang Pinay is a celebration of Filipina women and their art. It is hosted by Babae SF and Gabriela-USA, two progressive Filipina womyn’s groups in the Bay Area. It is “an annual performance and art event in San Francisco showcasing Filipina/ Filipina-American performers, writers, and visual artists. Organized by women, for the artistic expression of women, Diwang Pinay is an evening dedicated to celebrating the contributions, struggles, and triumphs of Filipino women.”

For more info, click on the image and it will lead you to the official website.

Hope to see you all at the Launch Reception for Issue 22: GENERATE on May 3rd, and maybe this event afterwards.

Yerba Buena GalleryWalk – 4/24

Yerba Buena neighborhood is just blocks from the Powell BART station and the uber-commercial downtown shopping area. This Saturday, there’s a different reason to head there.

The GalleryWalk gives artists, art lovers and tourists alike an afternoon to see something in downtown San Francisco other than five dollar coffees and fifty dollar t-shirts. The trek goes from 1:00pm to 5:00pm and though that sounds long, you get to hit up fourteen galleries for free. Add the five dollar wine reception at Hotel Palomar that closes out the evening and it seems like an afternoon well-spent. Or even better, a great date.
